DIANLI YANG

Try and make it.

My 2024

Still in the same place, doing this dull and tedious job, my mental state has worsened a bit, went to other countries, but everything else hasn't gotten better.

About Work, I've been shouting about quitting, but I haven't mentioned leaving now. I brought it up once two years ago, but after a few words of persuasion from my boss, I withdrew it. Continuing to talk about it is just unhappy stuff, as mentioned above.

About Travel

In March, I went to Hong Kong and opened two Octopus cards, bought some US stocks, and fortunately, by the end of the year, the returns were positive.

In April, Li Zhi had a concert in Japan. I couldn't get tickets, but the visa I got at the end of last year hasn't been used yet, so it would be nice to go for a stroll. So I avoided the May Day holiday and went to Tokyo. The first dinner after landing was unexpectedly delightful. However, I bought some things I didn't really need because I browsed too much on Xiaohongshu, but everything else was great, and it's still a place I would like to visit repeatedly.

In May, I attended a wedding of a former roommate from when I first came to Beijing, and our contact has gradually decreased. Looking back now, although it was just a year, it was indeed the happiest year I've had in Beijing. The wedding was in a city near Weihai, and public transportation wasn't very convenient, so I rented a car to explore. The first night, I randomly found a cheap hotel, priced around 100 yuan, which had the worst conditions I've ever seen. Although I don't have high demands for living conditions, my first impression was that it was worse than spending a night in the car.

After summer arrived, the hot weather combined with the absence of summer vacation made it the least favorite season of the year, repeating the routine of going to work and coming home.

At the beginning of October, I went to Hanoi, which was still very hot. However, I met many interesting people and experiences at the hostel, discovering that there were many European and American tourists, and the prices were relatively lower compared to domestic ones. In terms of Hanoi's environment, there were many motorcycles on the road, and they drove very fast. During the last few days of the holiday, I took advantage of cheap flights and went to Hong Kong again. The second visit lacked some freshness, but meeting an American friend at the hostel was the most interesting experience of this trip.

About Movies and TV Shows

I haven't watched many films and TV shows this year; I've been more restless than before, and I don't have much patience to settle down and binge-watch a series. I really liked "The Heart of Swimmers," "Monster," "What Kind of Life Do You Want to Live," "Good Things," "Grandma's Grandson," "Fallout," "Poor Things," and "Spring in Seoul" after finishing them.

In the second half of the year, I started listening to a lot of jazz music, still slowly getting into it and understanding it. I'll check back on this around the same time next year.

About Reading

Most of my reading happens while traveling or during lunch breaks on weekdays. "Flowers for Algernon," "The Wind Rises," "Don't Forget," "Steve Jobs: The Exclusive Biography," and "The Vegetarian" are some that left a deep impression, but actually, I read Xiaohongshu the most.

About Consumption

Having a bit more material wealth doesn't necessarily make my usually quiet life any better; instead, this brief novelty ultimately becomes unnecessary clutter.

Upcoming, I've booked a trip to Jeju Island to celebrate the New Year in a different place, and while this is being published, I wish myself a happy birthday.

Finally, I hope to do fewer things that make me unhappy in this limited time and try more to experience different lives; otherwise, I would miss out on a lot of happiness.
